Education
The Orange County Public Schools System (OCPS) governs the public education for residents of North Shore at Lake Hart. The school system is comprised of 126 high-performing schools that have earned top marks from the Florida Department of Education. Several schools have also earned the distinction of being named “Top of the Class” in an annual listing of outstanding schools published in Newsweek magazine. In 2008, 13 OCPS schools received that honor, meaning that they are ranked in the top five percent of public high schools in the nation based on the rigor of their curriculum and coursework. Residents have a variety of elementary, middle and high schools to choose from in the Southeast Orlando area. There are also several new schools in development that are planned near the North Shore at Lake Hart master-planned community. The largest university in the area is the University of Central Florida. Valencia Community College is also located in the immediate area.
Economy and Job Market
Employment opportunities abound in this part of Central Florida. The Southeast Orlando area is one of the fastest growing areas in the state with average incomes ranked highest in all of Central Florida. Fields of emphasis are in higher education, defense contractors, the simulation industry and healthcare. However, jobs in tourism, hospitality and retail are also abundant. Major employers include Central Florida Research Park, Siemens Westinghouse Power Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Florida Hospital of East Orlando and the Orlando International Airport. The Waterford Lakes Town Center is also an attractive place to find employment.
The development of the Medical City in Southeast Orlando will add a significant amount of employment opportunities to residents. The purpose of the Medical City, which will include the University of Central Florida Medical School, Nemours Children’s Hospital, Burnham Institute for Medical Research, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, is to create knowledge-based, business building environment where biotechnology research can be revolutionized in the Orange County Innovation Way corridor.
The Town Center is a 100-acre open air mall with over 120 specialty shops, retailers and restaurants. Additionally, master-planned communities in the region such as North Shore at Lake Hart also include their own commercial development in the form of restaurants, neighborhood merchants, grocery stores and national retail companies. Future construction of an International Corporate Park is also being planned with development space established just east of the Orlando International Airport, which is less than 10 minutes from the North Shore at Lake Hart master-planned community.
Attractions and Points of Interest
Residents of North Shore at Lake Hart are privy to a world of excitement. Many world-renowned attractions are situated in Southeast Orlando, which has emerged as Orlando’s fastest growing market. Orange County sponsors many outstanding local events for people of all ages to enjoy such as the Orange Country Festival, Arts Fest, Orlando Folk Festival, Orlando Cabaret Festival, Winter Garden Music Festival, Cowboy Heritage Festival and the Festival of the Masters, to name a few. Points of interest include Disney World, Universal Studios, International Drive, the Orlando Performing Arts Center and the Orange County Regional History Center. Most attractions are within minutes of North Shore at Lake Hart. Points of interest for nature lovers include Moss Park and the Split Oak Forest, as well as family-fun spots along the Econlockhatchee River, Lake Mary Jane, and Lake Hart.
Parks and Recreation
North Shore at Lake Hart offers over 11 acres of parks and recreation space. The community features a variety of playground areas and green space for sports activities, large events and family enjoyment. The community also has a multi-faceted Recreation Center with a variety of facilities and amenities. Within the community exists baseball fields, a basketball court, boating dock for access to Lake Hart, a fitness center, kids play room, large playground area, a pool and tennis courts. The master-planned community also features an excellent golf course at North Shore Golf Club. The facility was named as Orlando’s 2006 Best Public Golf Course and features both a links style nine and a traditional Florida golf nine. The Modern Nine has a Scottish links feel as it winds its ways through marsh and wetlands. The Classic Nine navigates the golfer through wider fairways lined with 100-year old oak trees. The golf course offers the kind of challenging golf one would typically find at an upscale course that charges significantly higher green fees. Located adjacent to Lake Hart is Moss Park, a wildlife refuge and bird sanctuary. Moss Park is the largest park in Orange County, offering over 1,500 acres of green space. Moss Park also serves as a gateway to the 1,800-acre Split Oak Forest. In addition to these outstanding open spaces, the North Shore at Lake Hart master-planned community also has a variety of biking and walking trails that wind throughout the property and connect to biking and walking trails outside the property.
